In case you haven’t noticed summer is here, and she is one hot babe! It has been in the low 90’s here in the Florida Panhandle but the heat index makes it feel like it is over 100! We decided to take the plunge and buy a jet ski 2 months ago so that we would have something to play out on the water with. I let the hubby pick it out since I know absolutely nothing about them, and my only request was that we get a blue one. (I am pretty easy please most of the time…LOL) We ended up getting a 3 seater Yamaha Ex Deluxe and so far we are absolutely loving it. We took it out to Crab Island in Destin the first weekend we had it to break her in before the summer crowds hit the area. We like to go right at sunrise so it isn’t crowded with all the boats yet and is usually just fishermen who are out that early with us. Luckily for us, the weather was perfect that morning and the water was turquoise perfection so we could not have chosen a better day to go out on.
I have a love/hate relationship with Crab Island most of the time. I love how beautiful the water looks in that area and how shallow the sandbars are. BUT, it gets insanely crowded during tourist season (AKA= SUMMER). So, Our favorite place to avoid the crowds are the islands which lie between the gulf and the bay. We live on the Mary Esther Sound (For you non coastal living folks, that basically means we live on the bay.) So we can just jump on our jet ski and ride until we find a spot on one of the islands where no people are and then its like we are on our own private island.
The pics above were taken on the island right behind our house (we refer to it as “Our Island” since we are there all the time.) The water is usually nice and calm and since there are no people around it is like your own private little piece of paradise. We have gotten to where we actually prefer just heading over to an island rather than dealing with the crowds on the beach and lack of parking. There are usually way more people in town visiting than there are parking spaces for everyone so that makes it tough to get a good beach spot sometimes. But, that is all part of coastal living and just something you learn to deal with. To us, It’s all worth it to get to live somewhere that we love so much.
I was nervous about buying a jet ski because I didn’t know if I was going to like it or not and was scared that I might freak out being on one in the ocean. But I can honestly say that I absolutely love it and am so happy that we decided to splurge on it. It is so much fun to ride and I’m sure we are going to enjoy it for many years. Do any of you guys enjoying being out on the water as much as we do? I don’t care if it is a swimming pool, river, lake or ocean, if it’s a body of water, I’m all about it. I love fun summer afternoons out on the water while enjoying a cold drink and some good music with the one I love.
Life is so short and precious that we all need to take time to truly enjoy it, ya know? That is something that has been on my mind a lot lately so I have been trying to just really LIVE and enjoy each and every day. My husband was recently listening to some George Straight (Country artist) and I heard a line in one of the songs that stood out to me so much and is now one of my fave quotes. So I will leave you with it today as something to think about…
“We are not here for a long time, but for a good time.” ~ George Straight
Looks so beautiful and peaceful! I havent ever been on a jet ski but would love to. We love to ride our Harley. Its peaceful!! Love watching your paradise on snap💞😘
Well if you ever get to visit down here Sam, I will deff let you guys ride my jet ski. Since y’all enjoy riding your Harley I am pretty sure you would like the jet ski too. 🙂
Everytime I read your posts you make me want to move to Florida! Lol I so wish I had those beautiful beaches right in my back yard. I love going to the beach in MA most are over an hour away. Also the water is COLDDDDD and not clear and blue like yours. Maybe one day I will retire down there haha! The jet ski sounds fun! I’ve only ridden on the back of one a couple times. Must be cool to own one! Idk if its just me but I feel people down south tend to enjoy life more. Up here it always seems like everything is all about work.
We used to be all about work too and stayed completely stressed out then we decided enough was enough. We knew we had to sacrifice and save to make it happen but we did it. And living here was a huge part of our vision of just simply enjoying life more. And let me tell ya, we Deff enjoy life a lot more now than we did back when we were younger. I hope that you get to retire here one day if thats what ya want chick. But deff don’t wait until your old to remember to slow down and enjoy it! XO
It looks like you’re living the dream there Julie! I think I love being out on the water as much as you but I don’t have a jet ski. I always say if I’m not in a place where I can hear the seagulls then I’m not where I’m meant to be! I just need to be close to the water all the time. Even on holiday! Lol. xx
