This was one of those random impulse buys from my local Walgreens. I have never used a Rimmel Foundation before but I have used a lot of their other products and really like them. So as I was browsing through their Lippies to see if they had any new ones I didn’t have and this foundation caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. It was only $3.97! I know that Rimmel makes some really great and affordable drugstore products but it has never even crossed my mind to try such a cheap foundation. I think the cheapest foundation I have ever tried was an ELF one that was $4 and it was awful. So “you get what you
pay for” just keeps sticking out in my mind. I feel like you can use cheaper eyeshadows and mascaras and they can rival a lot of their higher end competition. But when it comes to foundations, I am pretty much scared of a lot of the cheaper brands! But this one really intrigued me. I remember my niece using a Rimmel foundation and primer recently and she absolutely loved them. So I figured why not give this a try. If I tried it and hated it, then I only wasted a few bucks anyways.
The first thing I noticed about this is the packaging is a glass bottle with a plastic lid. I don’t mind cheaper packaging when using drugstore products because their not marking up their prices to help pay for better packaging. But I must say that I really hate foundations without a pump. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has ever dropped a glass bottle of foundation when I was getting ready in a hurry only to have it splatter all over the place. Yeah that was not a good time. So I personally like my foundation to have a pump, that way if it is accidentally dropped, it won’t end in stained carpets or walls. I do want to mention one thing about this not having a pump, on several reviews I read about this, people stated that they liked that it had a pump? Mine did not have one so I’m not sure If I just got one where the pump was accidentally left off in production or maybe someone removed it in store. I’m not sure, but from what I have read, most peoples do have pumps on them. So I guess I just got a dud….
Anyways, the lettering on this packaging is simple and plain, basically what you would expect from a product with this price tag.
I decided to try this on a day when I didn’t have to leave the house all day like I do when I’m trying most new products. That way if it’s entirely the wrong color or just looks terrible, I won’t scare anyone. Lol! I applied this on one half of my face just using my fingers. It is a bit watery so you do have to be careful with it. But it went on smooth and seemed to “melt” right into my skin. With one layer the coverage was light to medium. But it is very buildable so I just added one more thin layer and I feel like this gave me a pretty good full coverage. I wouldn’t go as far to say that it gave me a flawless face, but it did cover my scars, acne and redness very well. On the other side of my face I applied this with a Flat Top Kabuki brush. I really couldn’t tell any difference between the two application methods I used. So I think with this particular foundation you can just use your favorite method. I do want to mention that I have some really dry patches around my nose and mouth where foundation tends to stick and look pasty on me a lot. But with this, it stayed “Dewey” and seemed to look fresh on me all afternoon.
The color I chose is in 240 Soft Beige which matched me pretty well when I swatched it in store. But once I got it home in different lighting, it was actually a bit dark for me. So I fixed that problem by really blending it along my jaw and neckline and then darkened up my whole face with a darker setting powder and Bronzer. I don’t know if it’s just me because my face is still pretty pale, but I swear along my neck it almost had an “Orangey” tint to it. And I cannot stand when people use foundations that are too Orange and make them look like “Oompa Loopas!” (From the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) I apologize if you don’t get my silly reference. But basically all I’m saying is be warned that if you do try this, be very careful when choosing a shade for yourself. There are 8 different shades to choose from in this line but not enough to cover all the different skin tones out there in my opinion. One thing that I do absolutely love about this foundation is that it has SPF 18 in it and you know we have to wear sunscreen everyday here in Florida. Some foundations have SPF in them but they usually only go up to a 15. And with a lot of foundations with SPF you tend to get that obvious “white cast” on your face, but you don’t with this one. It really blended right into my skin beautifully and you could not tell that it contains any SPF at all.
I have combination skin, but to be fair, I do not think this foundation will work on those with Oily skin. On me personally, it makes my skin look “Dewey” as I mentioned above. But after doing some research for this blog post, it seems that most women who have oily skin, do not like this foundation at all. I can kinda see why it wouldn’t work well for them too because I had to re touch up my powder several times throughout the day myself just to keep my forehead from looking greasy. Maybe it has something to do with the SPF in it?
The Rimmels Website describes this Foundation as :
“Advanced smart technology promises traceless, flawless coverage that conceals imperfections and leaves no trace of that dreaded foundation line. It’s enhanced with sapphire radiance for an illuminating finish and states that it will last all day.”
I would have to say I agree that this does give a flawless coverage and does conceal imperfections well. And what has really blown me away about this is how many people are comparing this to their Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I
Personally can’t compare the two since I don’t have own the EL one, but if your interested just search it in google or on YouTube and you will hear this mentioned over and over.
Contains SPF 18
Covers imperfections well
Gives a Dewey Finish
Does not work on oily skin
Not enough shades to choose from
My overall thoughts on this …
To simply put it, I freaking love it!!!!
I think it is definitely worth every penny of the $3.97 and more. I am super impressed with the coverage and the wear. And I will most definitely repurchase when I run out.
Well ladies, I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on this. Let me know if any of you have tried this too and what you think about it.
Stay Beautiful & Blessed
