I will admit that Almay is a brand that I tend to skip over a lot of the time when I am browsing the makeup aisles at my local Walgreens or Target. I have tried items from them before but it’s been quite sometime since the last time I actually purchased something by them. The last product that I actually remember trying from them was their twist up concealer (which is really good by the way). I was literally walking down the aisle at Walgreens and cruising right on past the Almay section like I usually do and for some reason I looked up at it and this hot pink packaging caught my eye, and once I noticed the crazy wand on this thing I just knew I had to try it.
The scoop on this guy from Almay:
“The megaphone brush on this one coat Mega-Volume mascara makes every lash shout! This innovative Megaphone brush is designed to maximize formula pickup and delivery to lashes. Sculpt unique lash looks with show stopping volume!”
- Flared brush designed to maximize formula pickup and delivery to lashes
- Film formers and triple wax complex for soft, buildable volume
- Safe for sensitive eyes
- Doctor Tested, ophthalmologist tested
The megaphone brush was a cool idea but it just does not make sense to me why they would make a brush with the end so large that it could possibly touch your lid and makes it extremely awkward to do your inner corner lashes. If I was the designer, I would have made this wand backwards with the megaphone end being on the inside so that it would focus on fanning out your outer lashes, but then who am I to say how they should have made their product. I think they thought the concept of a megaphone shaped brush was a good idea, but… It just wasn’t. It makes application very awkward when trying to reach your inner corner lashes and you really have to be super careful as to not touch your lid with the oversized end. I even tried applying with my left hand when I am a right handed person just to see if that would help but that was a failure too. It literally just makes the application more of a pain.
About the formula:
This is a very dry formula and did not clump at all even after 3 applications. I usually prefer a wetter formula because I can see the volume better as I am applying but I will say that other than the brush being awkward, this is an easy to build up formula. A lot of times with 3 applications you can get stiff or crunchy lashes but this formula stays very soft which I really enjoy. I did not curl my lashes before I applied and this did not make my lashes curl up nor drag them down any (If that makes sense). So while I wouldn’t call this a total fail, it’s nothing that I would recommend to anyone either. I will probably go ahead and try to use the rest of it up but will only use it on the outer corners of my lashes and then will not repurchase. Have any of you tried out this crazy mascara yet?
